Setting aside money for those followers of Christ who are struggling through financial troubles or who have lost their jobs or are going through times where they are up against odds consistently that they are now being worn down and discouraged – or for the missionary that will be visiting in a few months, or the care package that needs to be sent to a missionary who needs to know that we love and care for them as they serve all alone – is something that we should be doing on a regular basis.
What happens is that we spend our money on ourselves or on others, but not because of need, only because of want – as there are no needs being presented – they are not on our radar screen. Then when we are asked we only have what is available – at our disposal and if you are like me, that does not match our heart for giving.
Solution — as we obtain a little bit of extra money, or we find ways of saving money, we take that amount each week and put it aside. Whether its enough for a large glass jar or for a separate bank account it does not matter – what matters is that we are ready when the ask to give is presented.
I believe that God sees our hearts in this regard. I also believe He finds ways to “prosper” us and loves to see that glass jar being filled or the bank account accumulating. The heart and character of God is a generous one – there are no words to describe how we feel when we see His reflection in us.
