I sometimes enjoy asking people what they would say if they were standing before God on judgement day and He asked them, “Why should I allow you into heaven?”
It gives a pretty good insight into the type of relationship the person has with Jesus.
Based on some of the testimony nights I have been through, there would be a lot of boasting going on about just how holy and righteous we really think we are.
Do you know that the promise given to Abraham, or I should say the blessing being in right standing with God because of his belief in God, was given to him when he was uncircumcised? That means that same promise was for all of us. He became the father of all who believe.
It means than that with the absence of circumcision, there was an absence of the law.
So it is only by faith and not by works (circumcision for example) that our promise of eternal life rests on grace and is guaranteed to all who believe.
That leaves very little for us to boast about since God has graciously given us such an amazing gift.
