The Wheel

Wheel%20IllustrationWhat’s missing in this wheel illustration?

Salvation that comes from doing our own thing or what is right in our own eyes, being a good person is good enough to make it into heaven, God will say that I’m okay because I have not done a lot of really bad things in my life, you know the beggar(s) that I pass on the way to work each day – I give them each a dollar – every day!

One day you pass away and come to realize that you did not end up in the place you were hoping to end up – you missed the mark with all your wealth and good deeds.  As you are being punished, you ask for a miracle – that you might return and tell your family that they need to change the direction they are going or they will be just as lost as you are.

The response is not so good.  They have the Word of God, they have Jesus, they have the Holy Spirit, they have others who have decided to accomplish the tasks that God has in store for them.  They pray seeking God.  They tell others about who God is and enjoy being around others, though imperfect, who enjoy being around God.

Do you think we can limp into heaven if one of these parts of the Wheel is missing?  Flat tire, missing spoke, broken hub?  My guess is that most of us would add a few more spokes to this, but lets keep it simple enough.
