Afraid of dying?

polls_cemetery_2828_799328_poll_xlargeI think all of us have that fear even though it may be for different reasons.

Most of us realize that there is a due date of some sort on our lives – a runner has so many runs before something gives out, a boxer can take so many hits to the head before he is forced to permanently recuperate.

Some of us choose to ignore the purpose and reason of our lives to somehow keep missing the boat and giving us an extended stay on earth.  At some point we wake up and say, why?  Life absolutely is not worth living without the reason and purpose.  Then we become more afraid of living I suppose.

I look at how Jesus faced death.  He was pretty bold, had His options always before Him but yielded to His purpose and reason for being here.  At the end of the day, He put His life in the hands of the one who always held Him and the only one He trusted – His Father.

Remember some of the words of our early missionaries – Roland Bingham who started SIM (Serving in Mission) – said that he came to sacrifice his life in order to proclaim the Gospel to those living in the Soudan.

Today, we run from persecution, pain and suffering.  We reject God when He does not heal or answer our demands. Our fear is driving us away from God.

The secret to living is dying and only a true follower of Jesus would know this – I was reminded the other day – take up your cross and follow Jesus.
