Extra oil

extra-virgin-olive-oilWhen I was in youth group, we had a song that we sung – “Give me oil in my lamp keep me burning…”  We turned it around to say – “Give me oil in my Ford, keep me trucking for the Lord…”

But just how much “extra” oil do we need to make it through until Jesus comes again?

This is where it matters and I think for each of us it is a different quantity.

I think there are those who have just made a decision to follow Jesus and away they go doing just that.  Then there are those who until they have been baptized in water were just floundering and baptism was the spiritual breaking point that engaged them in passion and fervor in serving the Lord.  Then there are those who struggle until they are baptized in the Holy Spirit.  They are not only transformed, but those around them cannot remain the same either.  It’s like every word coming out of their mouth contains the good news and sets people free.

Still, keep point, we all need extra oil if we are going to make it through the trials and tribulations.  May our walk with God give Him time to fill our cup to overflowing so that there is always room for Him to keep filling us with Him each and every day.
