The real answer of course is no.
We all have a spin on sexual experiments, murder, ten commandments and most of all – how to get to heaven.
Ever hear people planning their retirement, vacation, new home or car purchases and in that conversation have you ever heard them ask God what He wanted to do?
We love to think of God as sending Jesus to show us a way back into relationship with Him. But there is a seed of rebellion in us that says – thanks, but keep your distance. I can’t have you get too close because I can’t be faced with the fact that my life belongs to you – all of it, everything I have.
We feel this way because we do not know God.
God has made us responsible for everything – a manager so to speak. With that comes freedom and responsibility, but He trusts us to do well and to serve Him with these blessings so that our lives will honour Him and bring Him glory – people can see that we are followers of Jesus Christ.
It sounds right and good – so why do we feel the need to tell God what to do or how to do it and get upset when His ways are not ours. Also, when we plan our lives and He steps in and wants to redirect it, we get upset.
Why do we desire so much outside of God and His desires? What drives us to this place where we feel we are God and we call the shots? Please understand – this coming from followers of Jesus!
I think it is because we have bought into this whole idea that He loves us so much that we can do whatever we want and no matter how far we get from Him, He will always take us back and always love us. He loves us so much that He knows better than to mess with our lives and get involved.
Tell that to Abraham when God asked him to sacrifice his son, tell that to Job when God put him up as a contestant in a test with Satan, tell that to Jeremiah who wasn’t allowed to marry the girl of his dreams, tell that to Hosea who had to marry a prostitute, tell that to Jesus who laid down His life as a paid ransom for our lives. I was going to say that you could tell that to Jonah, but he was more like you and I until God got his attention with the whole whale thing.
God owns absolutely everything. He is allowed to do whatever He wants to do, especially with what belongs to Him. For those who believe He is God, the creator of heaven and earth, who loved us so much He sent His Son Jesus to bring us back in relationship with Him, then watch out because every day is going to be an adventure as He leads you into a place where you can trust Him and He can surprise you and bless you and have fun watching you growing up to be and do things He has always planned and purposed for you.
